Malta’s Archbishop Meets With St Albert The Great College Staff After Mario Mallia’s Firing
Malta’s Archbishop Charles Scicluna met with around 50 educators at the St Albert the Great College in Valletta, weeks after former headmaster Mario Mallia’s controversial dismissal from the school.
“The Archbishop appealed to the staff so that this difficult moment does not tarnish the beautiful experiences they have been through over the years. He also said that students’ educational experience is always a priority,” the Curia said in a statement.
He also said that he hoped that church schools will implement inclusive initiatives.
Mario Mallia was recently fired from his position as Headmaster and he claims his tenure was terminated over the introduction of inclusive measures at the Catholic school. The school has denied the claims, insisting that it was the result of “various managerial and procedural issues”.
The decision to axe Mallia after 16 years as headmaster of the school led to a flood of outrage on social media, from former students and colleagues to other academics, popular opinionists and even TikTok star Henry Galea.
Mallia, with the help of the Malta Union of Teachers, will be challenging his dismissal.
