Malta’s Civil Protection Officers Land In Devastated Turkey To Search For Survivors In Rubble

Maltese officers are hard at work in Turkey after earthquakes rocked the area, with thousands already dead and thousands more at risk of dying.
Pushing through collapsed buildings and street infrastructure amid freezing temperatures, the 32 Maltese Civil Protection Department officers plus canine companions are focused on locating anyone still under the rubble.
Currently, the MUSAR team are working on a specific hotel collapse in Malatya where 120 people are missing – and at least eight people have been identified to be buried under the debris.
Work is underway to extract the people as soon as possible.
As the officers work to save lives, Maltese people on the island have been wondering how they can contribute as well.
The Turkish Embassy in Malta has since appealed for winter clothing, canned food and women’s hygiene products and baby formula.
All donations can be delivered to the Turkish Embassy at 35, Sir Luigi Preziosi Square, Floriana, between 10am and 5pm and the donations will be sent to the country via Turkish Airlines.
New or used items suitable for winter conditions are the priority as rescue workers continue to retrieve people from beneath the rubble and a layer of snow.
Items like tents, blankets, sleeping bags and even power-banks and generators are also being sought.
