Malta’s Employment Rate Sees 5.3% Growth Compared To Last Year

An NSO (National Statistics Office) survey just revealed the number of persons employed in 2023 is 5.3 per cent higher than last year.
The Labour Force study was released on 13th June, showing that 291,756 of the population were employed in the first quarter of the year. The survey gathered the data from people aged between 15 and 64 years.
This means that on average, 78 out of every 100 people had a job.
Most worked on a full-time basis and totalled 256,592, with the rest maintaining a part-time job.
The male employment rate was significantly higher than the female one – 83.8 per cent, whilst the female employment rate stood only at 71.4 per cent.

The main reason for labour inactivity was due to people reaching retirement age, or retiring early.
The Labour Force survey is carried out using a quarterly gross sample from 3,200 of Malta’s households.
“The objective is to have a continuous assessment of labour market trends given that the reference weeks are evenly spread throughout the 13 weeks of the quarter,” the NSO website reveals.
