You would expect a country as beached up as ours to be swarming with beach sports teams like beach volley, beach football or sand castle building. For those of you who were starving for some handball action, your prayers have finally been answered. Malta has its very own National Beach Handball Team. Yay!
The Melita Falcons will be representing our country in high-level tournaments across Europe, and they’re made up of the boys from the National Handball team.
Beach Handball Instructor Tamas Neukum passed his knowledge on to the team during his stay here in Malta. He’s a very well-renowned instructor who led the Italian Women’s National Handball Team to win the European Championship in 2009 and the Mediterranean Beach Games in 2015.
Team Coach Ian Psaila confirmed that the team are now heading to Slovakia for a European Beach Handball Tournament.
“My motto for success is to first know the techniques and the philosophy of beach handball. The second is to improve different strategies. The third is to play very fast, with creative solutions, anticipating on offence and defence. Lastly to play easily and to smile, always be positive.” Adam Sule, National Team Manager said.
This course was held at the Golden Bay between the 15th and 17th of June. It was organised by the Malta Handball Association in collaboration with the European Handball Federation.
