Malta’s Historic Bieb Il-Bombi Vandalised With Black Spray Paint
Malta has woken up to a shocking act of vandalism inflicted onto the historic Bieb il-Bombi, which was defiled with black spray paint last night.
Floriana Local Council’s Minority Leader James Aaron Ellul took to Facebook a few moments ago, sharing images of the vandalised monument.
“This morning, Malta woke up to graffiti on a national monument,” Ellul wrote, criticising authorities for failing to reinstall a CCTV camera in the area.
On the monument, the words “I love you Dali” can be seen sprayed onto it in black, with a series of hearts surrounding the haphazard text.
“I have been appealing for months, during every council meeting, for the camera to be reinstalled after it was removed without any valid reason,” Ellul continued.
“Authorities dragging their feet once again, with no one assuming responsibility. Everyone playing ping pong,” he said.
Police were on site at around 7.30am this morning, along with members from the Forensic Team, to carry out investigations.
The historic entrance towards the capital city of Valletta was built back in 1721, and it was last renovated in 1868.
