The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses has suspended its industrial action after reaching an agreement with health authorities on the organisation of mass and organised events.

The announcement comes after an eight-hour marathon of discussions with the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, with an agreement reportedly being reached that mass events will not be taking place. Meanwhile, it is believed that only certain organised events are set to take place.

The Prime Minister told MUMN that the government will be committed to introducing rigorous enforcement, and fines will be introduced to all those breaking the law.

MUMN will still be monitoring the situation in terms of enforcement. If the adopted process is unsatisfactory, the  Industrial Action will recommence.

The decision to halt the directives stands in contrast with MAM, who will continue their industrial action after discussions with the government were unfruitful.
