Malta’s Roads Saw 58 New Cars Being Added Every Day In The Last Three Months
An average of 58 cars are introduced onto Malta’s roads every day as the stock of licensed cars in the second quarter of 2023 (between April and June) increased by 5,319 over the previous quarter.
The initial average was that of 82 new cars, but an average of 18 cars were also scrapped every day.
Freshly published statistics from the National Statistics Office (NSO) show that the majority of newly licensed motor vehicles, 4,160 or 55.6% of the total, were passenger cars, followed by motorcycles/PA-bikes/E-bikes with 1,335 or 17.9%.
Petrol-powered engines accounted for 58.4% of the total, followed by diesel-powered engines, and electric and plug-in hybrid engines at 36.2% and 3.3% respectively.
Compared to the first quarter of 2023, increases of 40.9%, 17.8% and 13.3% were registered in combined (diesel-LPG), electric and plug-in hybrid (diesel-electric) motor vehicles respectively.
This might not come as a surprise in a summer defined by widespread traffic congestion all over the country during searing heatwaves.
