Rebecca Dalli and Jake Gatt were named the Special Olympics Female Athlete and Male Athlete in the field of Golf and Athletics respectively. The pair were given the awards during the 62nd edition of the SportMalta Awards.

The red carpet event was attended by Sport Minister Clifton Grima, SportMalta CEO Mark Cutajar and Sandro Micallef, President of the Malta Sports Journalists Association.

The ceremony was a collaboration between the Malta Sports Journalists Association and SportMalta, with the backing of the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation.

A total of 11 honours were given out, seven of which were a result of votes by jury.

Inclusion Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli congratulated the two young athletes for their big win.

Malta is now gearing up for the Invitational Games for the first time ever in May. The island will be seeing over 1,000 athletes across six different disciplines all competing in Malta.
