Malta’s summer carnival is back on after it called was off to honour the tragic death of Jean Paul Bonnett.

Bonett, 45, colloquially known as ‘Chippy’, died after suffering an electric shock at a float warehouse in Triq il-Mollijiet, Marsa. His death stunned carnival communities who took to social media to express their condolences.

The carnival was then called off out respect to the much-loved float artists.

The new carnival will now take place this weekend, between 30th August and 1st September.

The decision was made along with Malta’s carnival sector.

The carnival kicks off this Friday night with the Gran Defile in Dawret il-Gżejjer, St Paul’s Bay.

It will then continue on Saturday, where the Defile will begin from Santana Hotel and will move along Islet Promenade until it reaches Buġibba Square.

Birżebbuġa will also be holding a parade Saturday night, starting at 7:30 pm from the bus terminus and proceeding along the coast of Pretty Bay.

Summer Carnival will then end on Sunday 1st September in Marsaskala, where the parade, featuring the participation of the Sant’Anna Band, will take on a new route from Żonqor to Marsaskala center at 7:30 pm.
