Malta’s Teenage Tennis Prodigy To Face Top Junior Players On The Planet At US Open

Fantastic Francesca Curmi might only be a teenager, but she’s been flipping the script on Malta’s international accomplishments when it comes to tennis. Earlier this summer, before she even turned 16, the starlet became the first Maltese athlete to qualify for the Main Round of the prestigious Roland-Garros Juniors. Now, she’s gone and impressed us all over again… this time at the awesome US Open.

Currently ranked 58th in the world as far as junior tennis players go, Curmi is set to take part in her third Grand Slam tournament for 2018; the prestigious US Open which is being held in New York.

Playing in the Main Draw event against the top junior players in the world, Fran will be competing in front of a packed crowd at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre.

It really feels like there’s no stopping this young Maltese tennis player.

Earlier last week, the 16-year-old beat two of the top American Juniors while battling it out in Washington. Hailey Baptiste and Katrina Scott both succumbed to Curmi, who even won certain matches with margins as big as 6-1.

Curmi’s next challenge starts this Sunday, with the US Open Main Draw taking place between the 2nd and 9th September. She will join 63 other hopefuls in the Main Draw which has three rounds and three further final rounds.
