Malta’s Tourism Soars In September With 20% Surge In Visitors And Record Spending

Malta’s tourism industry saw a remarkable boost this September, with inbound tourists estimated at 361,015—a 20.7% increase compared to the same month in 2023.

The total nights spent by visitors reached a staggering 2.49 million, and tourism expenditure soared to over €385.8 million.

The majority of tourist stays (86.8%) were spent in rented accommodations, reflecting a continued trend towards hotel and vacation rental stays over other lodging options.

The first nine months of 2024 marked an overall high for Malta’s tourism sector, with a total of 2.76 million visitors and close to 17.9 million guest nights recorded.

Total expenditure for January to September is estimated at €2.6 billion, with tourists spending an average of €926 per person.
