Maltese Artist’s Lord Of The Ring Orc Design Shines In New Amazon Series

A Maltese creator’s detailed take on an orc straight out of J.R.R Tolkein’s fantasy world has made it into an upcoming major Amazon series.
Anyone that’s ever seen the Lord of the Rings trilogy will instantly recognise one of the classic orcs – and Henry Galea’s own rendition of the famously evil race has been revealed ahead of its inclusion in the new LOTR: The Rings of Power series set to premiere in September.
Galea had gotten on the team’s radar while involved with the ACM Awards in Las Vegas, where they hinted at him to not post any LOTR content ahead of a big rollout.
Soon after, they hit him up saying they wanted him to create an orc to be featured in the prequel series.
After being given strict guidelines to follow on how to design it, he submitted his his draft – and was soundly asked to go back to the drawing board. But after some tweaking, it was finally green lit.

Here’s a preview still from the show with an actor wearing Galea’s design.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is an upcoming American fantasy television series based on the novel The Lord of the Rings and its appendices by J. R. R. Tolkien. Developed by showrunners J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay for the streaming service Prime Video, the series is set thousands of years before Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in the Second Age of Middle-earth. It is produced by Amazon Studios with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema.
Amazon bought the television rights for The Lord of the Rings for US$250 million in November 2017, making a five-season production commitment worth at least US$1 billion. This would make it the most expensive television series ever made.
