Maltese-Australian Salvu Vella Identified As Ħondoq Bay Swimming Victim

Maltese-Australian Salvu Vella was identified as the victim of a swimming tragedy in Ħondoq Bay.
According to the Times of Malta, 73-year-old Vella is a Maltese-Australian who returned to the island on holiday.
Vella was pulled from the water by other swimmers after he found himself in difficulty yesterday evening at around 6.30pm.
He was given first aid and a defibrillator was used before he was taken to Gozo General Hospital in an ambulance. However he died shortly after, police said in a statement earlier today.
Police described him as an Qala resident, however, reports state that he was living in Melbourne and visited Gozo on holiday.
Magistrate Simone Grech opened a magisterial inquiry, as police investigations continue.
