A Maltese contractor and his employee were only sentenced to two years in prison after causing the death of two women 18 years ago.

60-year-old Mary Zarb and 24-year-old Nadya Vavilova died after the apartment block they were in collapsed due to work taking place next door.

The contractor, Pawlu Demicoli, and his employee, Kevin Bonnici, were sentenced to two years and six months in Malta’s prison after they were found guilty of causing the deaths due to carelessness, TVM reported.

The incident occurred on 3rd June 2004 in Triq Ramon Perellos in St Paul’s Bay, while Vavilova was taking Maltese lessons with Zarb.

Back in 2006, Demicoli was sentenced to three years in prison, while Bonnici had gotten 18 months – however, they had appealed the decision.

Do you think they should have gotten a longer sentence?
