Diners at Maltese restaurants pay an average of €22.74 per meal, a new survey has found.

Vincent Marmara’s latest study among eateries for the Association of Restaurants Establishments, carried out between July and December 2024, was published this morning at an ACE conference.

Restaurants were asked to state the average spend per customer (including VAT), by taking their weekly sales and dividing them by the total number of covers.

The average spend per diner was found to be €13.75 at a cafeteria or snack bar, €26.04 at a casual diner, €51.36 at a fine dining restaurant, €14.50 at a staff canteen, food truck or kiosk, and €12.60 for a takeaway outlet.

The total average is €22.74, down from the €25.89 recorded in the first six months of 2024.
