Maltese Elderly Woman At Risk Of Dying After Nine Person Collision In Żurrieq

An elderly woman is at risk of dying after being involved in a collision in Żurrieq.

The incident occurred yesterday at around 6pm along Triq Ħal Far, Żurrieq, police have confirmed.

Upon visiting the site of the incident, police found that a collision had occurred between a Toyota Passo being driven by a 45-year-old man resident of Għaxaq, and an Opel Astra, being driven by a 36-year-old resident of Birżebbuġa.

In the 36-year-old’s car, there was a 40-year-old woman, a 10-year-old boy, and a seven-year-old girl, all residing in Birżebbuġa. 

Meanwhile, in the Toyota Passo, there were three women, aged 79, 70, and 44, two of them residing in Ħal Għaxaq and the latter residing in Luqa, along with a 14-year-old teen.

A medical team was called on site, along with members from the Civil Protection Department.

The 79-year-old woman was later certified to be suffering from serious injuries, while the 70-year-old woman and the 14-year-old teen are suffering from slight injuries.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia has opened an inquiry.

Police investigations are ongoing
