Maltese Magistrate Adds Arsenal Digs To Pitch Invader’s Sentence

Magistrate Joe Mifsud got the last laugh on “Peachygate: The English Pitch Invasion of 2017“. The judge, who is reportedly a die-hard Juventus fan, asked 16-year-old English pitch-invader Jake Peachy point blank in court which club he supported.

“Arsenal”, Peachy proudly said, hoping he was standing before a fellow ‘Gooner’.

Wrong answer.

“You always come close, but never win anything,” Mifsud teased.

“Peachygate” as reported by The Sun

Peachy broadcast his internal monologue via Twitter throughout last Friday’s England-Malta match at the National Stadium, promising that he would take the plunge onto the pitch if he received 400 retweets. At the 69th minute of the match, Peachy kept his word, lost his ability to attend any further Maltese matches this year, and gained the hearts of many who’ve imagined doing the exact same thing.

As a deterrent to other potential gate-hurdles, Mifsud had Peachy spend the night in a cell, pay a 200 fine, take a one-year break from attending any further Maltese sporting events – and lastly, and perhaps most painfully – sit in the hot seat while the judge pulled the piss at his always just short of the mark club-of-choice.

Peachey Tweets

Jake Peachy’s tweets leading up to the pitch invasion in Ta’ Qali

Peachy’s actions on the pitch – namely his hugging of Manchester United star Marcus Rashford, and winning over the heart’s of the cheering mob in Ta’ Qali’s stands may have saved the young supporter from facing more serious charges.

While Peachy still faces a potential travel ban from British authorities, and a lifetime ban from future England matches from the FA, an old school piss-take and slap on the wrist will suffice here in Malta.

Here’s to hoping the same applies for Peachy back home.
