Maltese Man Offered Drug Money To Marry Moroccan Granted Divorce

A Maltese man who married a woman he hasn’t seen for two decades has been granted a divorce by a judge.

In Family Court, the man explained how back in 2000, he had married a Moroccan woman after he was offered drug money.

He said he was struggling with drug addiction at the time, and was under the effects and was high during his wedding.

After they married, they did not move in together, and he hasn’t seen or heard from her since, TVM reported.

Judge Jacqueline Padovani Grima compared the situation to one found in theatres or in plays, noting that lawyers tasked with finding her were unable to locate the woman herself.

She said the marriage was nothing more than a ruse to gain the Moroccan woman citizenship, and granted the man a divorce.
