Maltese Man Under Investigation for Killing Mother And Children In Tragic French Road Crash
A 52-year-old Maltese man is under investigation by the French authorities for allegedly killing a woman and her two children while under the influence of drugs in a traffic accident last weekend.
Last Saturday, a 42-year-old French woman named as Laetitia and her two sons Naël, 8, and Yanis, 10, were killed in a traffic collision on the A26 motorway near Gavrelle, Pas-de-Calais.
The driver, who has been described as a Maltese national, was taken to Lille University Hospital with serious injuries and is under investigation for manslaughter.
The woman and her children were pronounced dead at the scene, while the Maltese driver was taken to Lille University Hospital with serious injuries, according to French media reports.
According to French media, initial findings suggest he crashed into their vehicle from behind while driving at a significantly faster speed.
Christian Sprimont, the mayor of Vimy, where the victims lived, called the accident “a shock and a real tragedy”.
Shops in Vimy closed for a day and residents held a silent march in the victims’ honour.
