Local triathlete Graham Borg made Malta proud last week with a gold medal win at the Vattenfall World Triathlon in Stockholm. He participated against 2000 other people in an Olympic standard 1.5km swim, 38km cycle and 10km run.

His final score? 1st in the 35-39 men’s age category, and 5th overall.

The Vattenfall was Sweden’s biggest triathlon event, bringing thousands of spectators all along the course.

This isn’t Mr.Borg’s first win of the year, but 5th out of 2,000 people on an international scale definitely makes it his most impressive.

“I felt strong from the start and right now I’m in a very good place, feeling stronger than ever,” Mr.Borg told Lovin Malta. “My objectives this year is to win the Birkirkara St.Joseph Sprint Triathlon Series, aim for a podium place in the National Championships, and qualify for the Ironman 70.3 championships in South Africa next year.”

This year, Graham also won first and second place in the first two races of the Birkirkara St. Joseph Sprint Triathlon Series as well as a win in the Masters B Category of the Birkirkara St. Joseph Open Water Swim Series.

His success is well earned, having been training since he was 14 years old and spending over 30 hours a week readying himself for events like this, exercising six times a week, three times a day. That’s practically a full-time job!

“Usually it’s 5/6 swimming sessions, 5 running sessions, 4/5 bike sessions, 1 gym and 1 Pilates session a week.” said Mr.Borg.

Graham’s next milestone competition is Ironman in Turkey this October.

Keep up the great work and make Malta proud!
