Maltese MEP Alex Agius Saliba Calls Israel’s Gaza Attacks A ‘Genocide’

PL MEP Alex Agius Saliba has become the first major Maltese politician to denounce Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip as a“genocide”.
“Over 9,000 Palestinians have been slaughtered by the Israeli government in the past four weeks,” Agius Saliba said. “Refugee camps have been bombed, hospitals have been destroyed and people have been left without electricity, medication and water.”
“If this massacre had been carried out by Russia in Ukraine, would Europe and the US have reacted with the same deafening silence with which it reacted to this genocide?”
Agius Saliba has been the most vocal Maltese politician in defending the rights of Palestinians who have suffered greatly in retaliation for Hamas’ attacks on Israel on 7th October.
His latest intervention comes as a group of students accused European Parliament President Roberta Metsola of “enabling genocide”, an accusation Metsola has denied.
