It’s been a good week for Malta’s Drug Squad, after it uncovered two alleged cocaine trafficking operations from hotel rooms in the span of three days.

The police confirmed in a statement that a 23-year-old Frenchman was arrested today in an unknown hotel room and will be prosecuted in the coming hours after he was found with 1.2kg of cocaine hidden in capsules.

The drug bust comes two days after a 27-year-old Maltese woman, later identified as Sabrina Grech, was caught red-handed allegedly trafficking cocaine, heroin and cannabis at a hotel room in Sliema. She pleaded not guilty and has been remanded in custody.

Another man, a 43-year-old from Sliema believed to be Grech’s partner was also arrested in the hotel room. According to TVM, he was under the effect of drugs and lost consciousness as soon as he realised the police had entered the room.

It is as yet unknown whether the two drug busts were carried out in the same hotel.
