Maltese Public Health Association Warns Of Second Wave If ‘Irresponsible Behaviour’ Continues

Parties, feasts, and other mass gatherings are best avoided in order to safeguard public health, the Malta Association of Public Health Medicine (MAPHM) has warned.
In a statement, the MAPHM condemned the government for failing to regulate mass gatherings and for “putting public health at risk”.
“It is unfair that the irresponsible behaviour of the few, enabled by the government’s inaction to adequately regulate or completely ban high-risk activities, puts the health and livelihood of the rest of us in danger,” the association said.
They noted that several other countries enjoyed low numbers of COVID-19 cases but proceeded to suffer from a second wave of the virus.
“If we are not careful, we will risk undoing all the sacrifices that we have made over the past few months,” they warned.
The MAPHM is urging the public to not participate in activities that “put you and your loved ones at risk.”
They specified this to mean any activity that involves many people in close proximity, including parties and feasts.
Many associations are coming forward with their own comments on the situation. While some are calling for strict regulation during mass gatherings, others are calling for a complete ban altogether.
