A Maltese rapper’s recent single has been picking up steam overseas, even getting recognised by US rapper 50 Cent’s team.

“Here to make the Maltese rap scene even hotter with his grime-y UK hip hop roots is one of the most candid trailblazers to have recently joined the airwaves in recent years, Rheez,” is how the review of Rheez’s recent single True Wounds starts on Thisis50.com.

The site covers the latest in hip hop and entertainment news and culture – and Malta’s very own Rheez is very much on their radar.

“His latest single is an ethereally trippy production with shimmering instrumentals, reflecting the salvation that music delivers, especially when it comes from a visceral need to tell a story that helps people understand their own narrative.”

True Wounds comes after his sophomore single PTSD, which made a splash locally – but the co-sign from a site linked to 50 Cent and the G-Unit outfit is a promising sign for the Maltese rapper. It’s racked up around 75,000 views on YouTube alone since its release.

Speaking to Lovin Malta, Rheez said that the recognition was a “mini make-it moment” for him.

“Being the first local rapper to be embraced like that feels special, but I’ve still got so much to do,” he beamed.

He broke down the meaning and thoughts behind his latest single.

“True Wounds is a whole recollection of my younger years’ trials and tribulations, reflecting on lots of issues faced in my younger years and these days, there’s a whole heap of pain lines in the song. However, the mission behind True Wounds is not to tell people my story to feel sorry, but to feel motivated to get there selves up out of any situation life putting them in, positively.”

Rheez has more music and videos in the works, so stay tuned to his socials if you want to hear more from the man.
