From internet ads to media bombardments, there’s enough going on all around us for our self-confidence to take a substantial hit every now and then. Making sure that people are not only happy in their own skin but also confident, a young Maltese student has embarked on a project to support and empower curves on the island.

Lisa Baldacchino just turned 20 years old, and she’s currently sitting for her BA First Year in Creative Media Production at MCAST. Beyond her studies, however, she’s also working on a new project, aptly named Big, Bold and Beautiful.

“I was always the big girl in class… I still am,” Lisa told Lovin Malta. “The big girl in photos. The big girl in general. Over the past year and a half, I have decided to focus on loving myself and accepting my body shape and size. I know that I am not the only one going through this and I’m sure that there others who go through this and I want to help as many people as I can and give them the courage and confidence they need to flaunt what they have and be happy with themselves.”

“The reason I’m starting this project is because I want to empower and motivate bodies of all shapes and sizes,” Lisa told Lovin Malta. “I don’t feel there is enough awareness and support here in Malta, so this was my way of giving back.” Big, Bold and Beautiful will be launching next week, on the 21st of April, but Lisa has already started setting the mood for what’s to come.

“I started off this project with a photoshoot with five other girls,” she said. “When I launch, I’ll be introducing these girls, and myself of course. Also, every few months, I will be organising photoshoots with different women. As always, the goal is to empower and motivate.”

Photos of the six Maltese girls have already started circulating online, gathering traction and a great dal of positive feedback.

“Every aspect of the photoshoot was sponsored,” Lisa told Lovin Malta. “Hudson Group / New Look took care of the clothes, Suzanne Pace Decesare and Kyra Borg helped with make-up, Sabrina Zammit was on hair and Sofia Evers for and Shadeena Studio were instrumental in the photography and the studio.”

Big Bold and Beautiful will be taking on the form of a hybrid between a fashion blog and a motivational blog, and the Instagram account and Facebook page have already been set up. And while the project will officially launch next week, now’s a perfect time to start following the blog and make sure you’re first when things kick off.
