Maltese Teenager Matthew Farrugia Awarded The New Victor Calvagna Volunteer Award
A young Maltese volunteer has just been awarded the newly introduced Victor Calvagna Child Volunteer of the Year award.
Matthew Farrugia received the award, issued by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector, after he was nominated by the leaders of the Salesian oratory in Isla, where he volunteers on a weekly basis.
“This was the first time this award was being given out and I was the first winner. I was nominated by the leaders of the Salesian oratory in Isla where I attend on a regular basis and spend most of my time,” Matthew told Lovin Malta.
“My aim is to spread further awareness about volunteering. It doesn’t have to be something bombastic, but it can start from your own locality,” he said.
The NGO that Matthew works with is called Home away from Home, where he also helps in leading the morning runs and football that occurs every Sunday, organised by the youth centre.
He is also the founder of a group that works towards a cleaner and nicer environment, called Clean and Green.
The Victor Calvagna Children Volunteer Award is awarded to a volunteer between the age of ten and 15 years having the same aims as the National Volunteer Award and the main scope to promote volunteering amongst children.
Well done Matthew!
