A man has been charged with raping a drunk woman at Dingli cliffs after meeting her at a party earlier that night.

Hungarian national Jozsef Laszlo Kota, 32, met the Maltese girl at a party between Friday and Saturday and eventually drove her to Dingli cliffs, where he allegedly raped her.

He was charged with raping a person who was unable to resist and committing non-consensual sexual acts, as well as dangerous driving, driving under the influence and having the incorrect address on his documents.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and his lawyers Franco Debono and Amadeus Cachia requested bail.

“He got to know [the alleged victim] on that night, he doesn’t know where she lives,” Debono argued. “We shouldn’t discriminate against him because he is a foreigner; he’s been living in Malta for almost four years.”

However, prosecuting inspector Stacy Attard objected, arguing that the incident has left the alleged victim “incontinent with fear”. Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit noted that alleged victim, the prime witness of the case, has yet to testify and ordered the accused remanded in custody pending her testimony.
