Maltese Women ‘Getting False Abortion Advice’ From Man Who Linked It To Breast Cancer
An Irish pro-life activist who has warned women that abortion could cause breast cancer and turn them into child abusers is reportedly dishing out false advice to Maltese women seeking abortions overseas.
Mara Clarke, founder of the UK-based Abortion Support Network, which expanded to Malta earlier this year, flagged this alleged misinformation by Eamonn Murphy, an unsuccessful MEP candidate, in comments to The Times (UK).
Clarke said a woman who contacted a pro-life group in Malta was referred to Murphy. The man, who said his name was “Eamonn” and claimed to work for the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, allegedly called the woman from an Irish phone number associated with Murphy.
The woman was also sent an email, from an address regularly used by Murphy, about a woman who had died after having an abortion.

“When we expanded our services to Malta in February, we expected — and got — push back from people in Malta who are against abortion,” Clarke said. “What we did not expect was to hear from women who had been misled by people within Malta, organisations and individuals who offered to give information about pregnancy options including abortion and instead attempted to scare these women and girls with lies and medical misinformation.”
Clarke also warned that Maltese pro-life groups are trying to trick women into not accessing abortion services overseas.
“Someone pretended to be an employee from an abortion clinic and told a woman she needed to delay her procedure by two months, by which time it would have been too late for an abortion in England,” she said. “It is despicable that these organisations would prey upon women in this way.”
