Maltese Youth Involved In Serious Bulgarian Car Crash Discharged From Hospital
A young Maltese man involved in a serious car accident in Bulgaria is on the road to recovery – though he’s still in a lot of pain and can only type with one hand right now.
“I’m pleased to announce that after a week of surgeries, pain and drama I have been discharged and am recovering at home,” Eugene Camilleri said today in his first public update since the accident last Saturday.
“While I appreciate all the kind messages, I apologise for the fact that I won’t get back to most of you in a timely manner because i) I am still in a lot of pain, and ii) I have one functioning arm right now,” he continued cheekily, before sending his love to everyone who expressed concern or showed support.
Camilleri and another Maltese youth, David Briffa, were involved in a serious traffic accident in Sofia, Bulgaria, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Briffa himself has undergone surgery following the accident.
Bulgarian media outlet Nova News reported that the Maltese men were passengers in a car that was being driven by a 19-year-old Bulgarian man.
Besides the Maltese men, the car was carrying three other passengers.
Briffa told TVM that the driver was driving excessively fast and the passengers had tried to make him slow down. However, the driver lost control of the vehicle, skidded and crashed into a pole.
Nova News reported that the driver was arrested and tested positive for alcohol, amphetamines and cocaine.
