A 32-year-old man from Ghana has been arrested after being charged with possession of 40 sachets of weed.

The suspect tried to flee the police during which a number of sachets fell off his person. 18 packets of cannabis and 18 synthetic ones were found. 

Police also found an Italian identity card, and were charged with defying authority orders.

The accused pleaded not guilty and did not request bail.

Almost two years since Malta passed landmark cannabis reform laws, the island could be the only country in the world where you can possess weed but cannot buy it.
