A migrant being held at the Safi detention centre has been charged with threatening security guards and stripping down naked in front of them after they refused to provide him with corned beef.

Inspector Trevor Micallef testified that the Egyptian migrant had included corned beef in a shopping list yesterday afternoon but that security guards denied his request on the grounds that cans of corned beef can used as a weapon.

He pleaded not guilty but was denied bail, after Micallef argued that he had already been convicted of a number of offences in the six years he has been in Malta.
