An Italian man has been kept in police custody after he was charged with pimping his wife at a massage parlour in Mosta.

Gianluca Ferorelli, who has been living in Malta for two years, was arrested and arraigned in court on charges of pimping his wife at a massage parlour in Mosta. The massage parlour is run by Pawlina Cutajar, a 24-year-old Maltese woman, who pleaded guilty to charges of living off the earnings of prostitution and permitting her property to be used as a brothel.

Cutajar was released on bail against a deposit of €500, with the prosecution not objecting and pointing out that her past was “not an easy one”.

Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech will now draw up a pre-sentencing report for Cutajar,  after getting the go-ahead from the woman’s defence lawyer Arthur Azzopardi.

Meanwhile, Gianluca Ferorelli pled not guilty but was denied bail on the grounds that his wife was the prosecution’s main witness and that letting him go could pose a serious risk of tampering with evidence.

The story has been updated to correct an earlier statement that Gianluca Ferorelli was married to Pawlina Cutajar
