A driver has been fined €2,750 after being caught driving his mother’s car without a valid insurance license when he attempted to bypass a roadblock in Naxxar last December.

The incident occurred at around 10.30pm on Salini Road, when the driver attempted to change his route when he saw the the blue lights coming from the roadblock.

After being apprehended, it was revealed that he was driving his mother’s car without her permission.

He was initially fined €420, and banned from driving for eight days. However, Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera increased the fine to €2,330, TVM reported, for a total of €2,750.

His driving ban was also increased from eight days to one year.
