A 75-year-old man drowned while swimming in Balluta Bay this morning.

Reports indicate that the incident happened at 8am when the man was picked up by swimmers after they noticed he was face down in the water.

The man was given first aid by a Mater Dei medical team but was announced dead at the scene.

Investigations are ongoing.
