A 23-year-old man who was involved in a car crash that killed 62-year-old Mildred Azzopardi is expected to be charged with involuntary homicide, drink-driving and more, Times of Malta reported.

The incident happened on Sunday night when a Subaru Impreza car driven by the accused – a Paola resident – crashed into a Ford Fiesta parked on the side of the street at Ta’ Liesse, Valletta. Mildred got trapped between the two vehicles and died on the scene.

A relative of the mother of four told Lovin Malta that Mildred was with her husband eating pastizzi and sipping tea on the seafront, “like they did every evening”, before she got caught in the fatal collision.

A 69-year-old man – a Ħamrun resident – who was in the parked car suffered serious injuries while the accused was unharmed.

This accident marked the third traffic fatality of the day, following an earlier incident in Fgura that claimed the life of a 71-year-old woman and another in Pietà in which a 58-year-old man was killed.
