Man Left Bleeding On Mellieħa Street For 45 Minutes, New Mayor Warns
Mellieħa’s new mayor-elect Gabriel Micallef has expressed his frustration at how long the police and an ambulance took to deal with an incident on the streets of his home town yesterday.
Micallef told Lovin Malta that a resident reached out to him in a state of shock to inform him of an incident that occurred close to Wellbee’s Supermarket.
He went to the scene and saw a man bleeding on the floor, with other people around him. From the information he received, it appears as though the man was a foreign tenant, that he was attacked during a fight at his apartment, and that his assailant fled the scene.
Micallef warned it was a struggle to contact the authorities, with community police officers not answering the phone and police officers not turning up. He eventually had to call a superintendent directly.
He said it took between 45-50 minutes for police officers and an ambulance to arrive on site, and that people grew concerned whether the man would make it.
“Our locality urgently needs a 24/7 patrol service and a stationed ambulance,” he said. “This matter cannot be ignored, and I will not let it rest until proper measures are in place to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.”
