Manwel Curmi Identified As Gozo Swimming Incident Victim

Manwel Curmi was identified as the 34-year-old man who lost his life after encountering trouble while swimming in Żebbuġ, Gozo.

Curmi – a resident of Għajnsielem – was said to have been fishing when he found himself in difficulty earlier this afternoon, according to TVM sources. He had reportedly also begun working as a firefighter with the Civil Protection Department in February.

A police statement said that people nearby provided first aid and pulled him out of the sea. The victim was immediately assisted by a medical team and taken by ambulance to the Gozo General Hospital. Unfortunately, he was certified dead shortly after.

An inquiry has been opened by Magistrate Brigitte Sultana, while police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
