Mario Vella ‘Ta’ Bieżel’ Identified As Kirkop Crane Incident Victim
Ħaż-Żebbuġ resident Mario Vella, also known as ‘Ta’ Bieżel’, has been identified as the victim of this morning’s crane incident in Ħal-Kirkop.
At 4.30am today, Vella was working on a ‘high-up’ crane to clean the roof of a tunnel on Triq l-Industrija, when for some reason, he ended up crushed between the concrete roof and machine.
Sarah Agius Saliba, a former Ħaż-Żebbuġ mayor, took to Facebook to pay her tributes to Vella.
“A shock this morning. Rest in peace, Mario,” Agius Saliba wrote.
“Thank you for your service and work with the local council back when I was mayor.”
A magisterial inquiry into Vella’s death has been opened.
