A man was killed in a traffic accident last night after being struck by a vehicle.

The man, a 79-year-old resident of Marsa, was certified dead shortly after being struck by a Kia Sorento being driven by a 24-year-old man from Birżebbuġa at around 7pm last night in the Marsa-Ħamrun Bypass.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and took the man for further medical treatment at Mater Dei hospital; however, he was certified dead by professionals soon after.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia has ordered an inquiry into the death. Police investigations are underway.
