Marsa Promenade Can Become One Of Malta’s Most Attractive Areas, Prime Minister Insists
Prime Minister Robert Abela waxed lyrical about the future of Marsa, stating its promenade has the potential to become one of Malta’s most attractive localities.
“Marsa has so much potential,” Abela said on ONE Radio today.
“It’s currently associated with the maritime sector and, while that sector must stay there, we can complement it and regenerate the entire promenade. We can develop it into one of the most beautiful localities in Malta and I have a lot of courage in this regard.”
The Prime Minister insisted that solutions for towns like Marsa shouldn’t be based on “populism”, “sensationalism”, and pitting Maltese people against foreign nationals.
“You might get a few claps but this isn’t a mature solution that mature leaders should be offering. The people want the government to offer solutions to challenges and we are determined to bring solutions to the table.”
Regeneration plans for Marsa were launched by the Planning Authority last year, envisaging the scaling down or complete relocation of the abattoir and heavy industries.
Instead, the area will be converted into a “prime tourism and leisure harbour destination”, complete with a yacht marina and a hub for start-ups.
