Matthew Caruana Galizia has hit out at Castille’s customer care head Sandro Craus after it emerged that he helped the alleged middleman in his mother’s assassination land a fake government job.
Caruana Galziia shared a Facebook status that Craus uploaded yesterday, in which he condemned protestors for throwing an egg at Justice Minister Owen Bonnici and swearing at him as he walked into Castille.
“Murder middleman Melvin Theuma just confirmed that Muscat’s personal secretary Sandro Craus arranged for him to get a fake job in government, under instructions from Keith Schembri, with the agreement that Theuma would never turn up for work,” And here he is attacking protestors. BARRA ISSA U DRITT GHAL GOL-HABS, ZIBEL LI INT (Get out now and go straight to prison, you trash).
During today’s testimony, Fenech testified that murder suspect Yorgen Fenech had told him he wants to kill Daphne Caruana Galizia because she was going to publish information about his uncle Ray Fenech and instructed him to get in touch with Alfred Degiorgio to set this plan in motion.
Degiorgio told Theuma he wanted €150,000 for the murder, with €30,000 up front, and Theuma relayed this to Fenech.
One or two days later, Fenech called Theuma up to tell him to expect a call from Craus. Craus then informed Theuma that he had a meeting with Keith Schembri and Theuma met up with the Prime Minister’s chief of staff, in what was his first ever visit to Castille
No details of this meeting have emerged so far but Theuma told the court that Craus informed him that he had been given a government job.
“I never even went into work… I have no idea what my job even was,” he said.
Theuma said he received three or four monthly cheques from Castille, but this stopped two months after the 2017 election.
Questioned by prosecuting inspector Keith Arnaud, Theuma says no one else had spoken to him about the murder and that, as far as he knows, Fenech was the mastermind because he had paid him. However, he said that Fenech mentioned Schembri “hundreds of times” so he felt he was involved too.
At one point, Fenech warned Theuma that murder suspect Vince Muscat was spilling the beans to the police and told Theuma to warn the other suspects, brothers Alfred and George Degiorgio, through their cousin Mario.
Theuma and Fenech had a row and Theuma stopped answering Fenech’s calls. Theuma then received a phone call from a stranger, who told him he was coming over to his house to have a word with him. The man arrived at Theuma’s house, said his name was Kenneth and that he works at Castille and called up somebody, who Theuma believes was Keith Schembri.
Afterwards, ‘Kenneth’ told Theuma to inform the Degiorgios and Muscat that they would be getting bailed out and paid €1 million each.
Theuma said he confronted Fenech about ‘Kenneth’ and asked him whether Schembri had sent him to his house, but Fenech didn’t answer.
