Matthew Caruana Galizia, the son of the assassinated journalist, has called out Yorgen Fenech’s brother for ‘loving’ a comment underneath a Keith Schembri post explaining why he refused to be cross-examined on 17 Black, the infamous company owned by Fenech.

According to leak documents, 17 Black was set up to receive millions from Schembri and Konrad Mizzi’s offshore Panamanian companies. Fenech is one of the shareholders in the Electrogas power station.

“Totally not making it obvious who the members of this criminal organisation are. A comment supporting Keith Schembri, below his post, with a Love reaction from Yorgen Fenech’s brother. How sweet hanini,” Caruana Galizia wrote on social media.

Schembri finds himself under significant pressure once again, after he withdrew a libel suit he instigated himself rather than be cross-examined on 17 Black.

The comment, which was shared on Schembri’s post defending his decision and was ‘loved’ by Franco Fenech, read:

“Maybe we should all comment when we walk in that person’s shoes – whoever that person is. Commenting, thinking that we know all the facts is useless – it’s just attacking people for the sake of it or to curry favour.”

Schembri confirmed last year that 17 Black, as well as the second Dubai company Macbridge, had been included in draft business plans for his business group as potential clients. The identity of the owner of Macbridge remains a mystery.

In a parliamentary speech, Simon Busuttil demanded the Prime Minister reveal when and where he last met Yorgen Fenech; while also detailing why Schembri’s position had become untenable.

What is 17 Black?

With the help of leaked documents given to Daphne Caruana Galizia before her death, The Daphne Project uncovered that 17 Black was one of two companies which were supposed to transfer money to Schembri’s and Konrad Mizzi’s Panamanian companies.

Leaked documents from the FIAU also showed how 17 Black received over €1 million in payments from Mario Pullicino, the Maltese agent of the LNG tanker in Delimara, and an Azeri national.

After years of suspense, the owner of 17 Black was revealed to be none other than Yorgen Fenech, an investor in Electrogas, the consortium running the Delimara power station.
