Matthew Caruana Galizia: I Urged My Mother Not To Quit Her Blog Months Before Her Assassination

Matthew Caruana Galizia has spoken about how he helped persuade his mother Daphne Caruana Galizia not to quit her blog, just a few months before she was assassinated in a car bomb.

“There was a moment in 2017 when my mum didn’t publish anything on her blog for a month,” Caruana Galizia said in an interview on Italian TV, referring to the period right after the Labour Party won the general election by a huge margin.

“She needed a break but she was considering what she was doing. During that time, my attitude was that we have a job to do and we must finish it. I was insisting with her that we continue. I really felt that urgency and that’s how I feel now, that we still haven’t finished that job and that we are continuing it.”

“My mother has been assassinated but, for me, we’re doing the same job we set out to do in 2016. It continues up until this day despite her assassination, which I think is what she would have wanted.”

Caruana Galizia, along with his brothers Andrew and Paul, were interviewed along with Italian journalist Roberto Saviano as part of the build-up for his new book ’Munizioni’, which carries Italian translations of  Daphne’s writings carefully selected by her three sons.
