Meet George Il-Mauz, Malta’s Most Elusive MEP Candidate
From independents to traditional politicians, the people of Malta will have a wide range of options when they take to the polls this weekend.
However, one MEP candidate has kept an extremely low profile.
George Grixti is contesting the election as an independent candidate, but with early voting already underway, there is a surprising dearth of public information about him.
The ballot sheet lists his nickname as “George il-Mauz”, an ex-policeman who lives in Iklin.
It is extremely likely, although not confirmed, that he formed part of the Mobile Squad and that he was involved in dealing with an arson attack back in 2009.
Other than that though, there doesn’t seem to be any public information on Grixti.
A MaltaToday article which gave a breakdown of all 39 candidates left a blank space under Grixti’s name, while a similar Times of Malta article coyly said “Information not available”.
Grixti doesn’t seem to have any social media presence or organised any campaign rallies, and he didn’t take part in a Popolin debate for independent candidates.
We are extremely curious about George Grixti, and with three days to go until the election, we are urging him to reach out so we can find out more about him and why he has decided to contest.
