Mellieħa Man ‘Driving In Wrong Lane’ Who Tested Positive For Drugs Charged With Mosta Double Death

A 41-year-old Mellieħa man has been charged with the involuntary murder of two men who were killed while on a motorcycle on Saturday morning.

Karl Vella Petroni has pled not guilty to the charges against him. Meanwhile, he has also tested positive for drugs during the incident, it was revealed in court today. 

Around 6am on Saturday morning, Vella Petroni, driving a Smart Fortwo, collided with a Yamaha Crytpon motorcycle that the two victims were riding on.

Police sources told TVM News that the driver is believed to have been driving in the wrong lane at the time of the collision.

In court, it was revealed that the man was under the influence of both alcohol and drugs at the time of the crash. One arresting officer reported smelling alcohol on the driver while on the scene of the incident.

The two men, both from Pakistan and aged 41 and 33, lived in St Paul’s Bay.

The 33-year-old was unfortunately certified dead on-site, and the 41-year-old died shortly afterward.

Vella Petroni was charged in front of Magistrate Abigail Critien this evening.
