President of the European Parliament (EP) Roberta Metsola is set to make history by winning over 81,000 votes, the most that any Maltese MEP has ever gotten.

Such high numbers were only ever seen before in 2009 by former MEP and Nationalist Party Leader Simon Busuttil who got a staggering 68,782 votes and former MEP and current Energy Minister Miriam Dalli who got 63,438 votes.

According to figures provided by Labour Electoral Chief Louis Gatt to Malta Today, Metsola received 81,130 votes.

This is the full breakdown of his number:
Alex Agius Saliba: 58,316
Arnold Cassola: 12,884
Daniel Attard: 10,634
Thomas Bajada: 9,601
Steve Ellul: 8,670
Peter Agius: 8,640
Claudette Abela Baldacchino: 8,284.

Polls leading up to today placed Metsola as the front-runner of the elections, with her face-to-face campaigning clearly working.
