‘I Am Very Satisfied’: Bernard Grech On ‘Best Ever’ MEP Election Result
“I am very satisfied,” Opposition leader Bernard Grech said in his first comment after it was announced that PL won the election “comfortably”.
“This is the only survey result that counts. It’s clear that the Maltese population wants better leadership and transparency rather than a political spin. The message is clear,” Grech stated in a televised message on Net TV.
He went on to say that it is clear that the Maltese public had spoken up against the style of governance that was detached from the people and in favour of that proposed by the Nationalist Party.
Grech stated that the PN had to combat a government using millions in government funds to manipulate the election.
“I am being told that the gap between the two parties is 15,000 votes, or perhaps even less. It is clear that the PN is moving forward in a calm and mature manner. People not only want a better country but are realising it is only the PN that can provide this,” the Opposition leader stated.
“It isn’t PR that makes people’s lives better but how much you care about the people you represent.”
“Tomorrow, Labour will still be in government, but this result is a clear message to those who think they can be arrogant, who think they can be harsh on a mother who lost her son and wanted answers. People think it was something small but it wasn’t. If a politician cannot have humanity in such a horrible moment, how can he ever be able to understand you?”
“Not only did we manage to reduce the gap to less than a third of the last election voting gap, but this is the best MEP result we’ve achieved in history.”
“Thank you for being there for yourself, for your children, and for the Maltese public,” he continued.
“It is clear that the people believe that PN can offer strong leadership eventually.”
“People are understanding that PL spin things to make sure that they remain in government. They keep saying PN want war, but people know this is a Labour spin.”
“We will keep our feet on the ground and we will remain humble. We will continue working, and I encourage you to come talk to me. I want to hear your personal story,” Grech stated.
He then thanked the Maltese people, the MEP and local council candidates, as well as party workers, volunteers, members and activists.
