Roberta Metsola Secures Malta’s First MEP Seat

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has secured the first out of six Maltese seats on the EP.
While the official number of votes hasn’t been confirmed, it’s clear that she has surpassed the quota – the question now is by how much?
Sources are stating that she is set to make history in Malta, potentially gaining the most votes as MEP than any other candidate before.
The current records include Nationalist Party Leader Simon Busuttil who got a staggering 68,782 votes in 2009 and former MEP and current Energy Minister Miriam Dalli who got 63,438 votes in 2019.
Polls leading up to today placed Metsola as the front-runner of the elections, with her face-to-face campaigning clearly working.
The president hails from the centre-right European People’s Party group, the same group as Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Lovin Malta is currently at the counting polls in Naxxar, reporting on all the latest developments.
