Vote Gap At Between 15K And 20K: PN Looking At Best-Ever MEP Election Showing

The projected gap between the Nationalist Party and the Labour Party is likely to be in the region of 15,000 and 20,000 votes, according to Nationalist Party Secretary Michael Piccinino.

Speaking to journalists at the counting hall in Naxxar, Piccinino described the result as the Nationalist Party’s best ever showing in European Parliament elections.

If confirmed the result would mean that the gap in vote has been more than halved when compared to the last MEP elections in 2019.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola is understood to have obtained a number of votes equivalent to two quotas. This will likely see David Casa also elected immediately as a result of votes inherited from Metsola.

Asked to comment on Piccinino’s statement Daniel Micallef refused to comment on numbers, insisting it was still early to do so. He insisted that the electorate had sent a “strong message” in favour of the Labour Party.
