Energy Minister and former MEP Miriam Dalli was all smiles at the Naxxar Counting Hall this morning as the count for the 2024 MEP Elections kicked off.

“This is the first election where I’m not directly involved,” Dalli told Lovin Malta’s Clara Sciberras.

Dalli’s stint as MEP was a very successful one, with the Labour heavyweight even being named the most influential MEP in 2019, and even one of the top 100 MEP from the 28 Member States. By the end of her legislature, Dalli was being hailed as Europe’s “Eco-Warrior”.

“It’s still early.”“I miss the excitement of having your name on the ballot sheet, even though I was still involved and I’m still excited,” she said.

“I’m the type of person who would’ve gone through a satisfactory phase and then would want to do something else,” Dalli said when asked whether she’d consider returning as an MEP candidate.

“Now I’m a minister and I still have a lot to do, so what I do see myself is contesting again for the General Election.”

“A lot of things were mentioned, and when you see some of the votes still being organised, you know it’s too early to comment,” Dalli said when asked about what she predicted the gap between PL and PN would be this time round.

Lovin Malta is live from the Naxxar Counting Hall all day today, so stay tuned for more updates as we get them.
